Khayyam as a Model for Resilience: “The Dialectic of Sorrow and Joy” at Central BookCity

Khayyam as a Model for Resilience: “The Dialectic of Sorrow and Joy” at Central BookCity

To mark Omar Khayyam Commemoration Day, Central BookCity hosted “The Dialectic of Sorrow and Joy: Khayyam’s Model for Resilience in Personal Crises,” attended by readers interested in literature and ideas.

Speaker Mohsen Masoudian offered an overview of Omar Khayyam’s scientific and literary life and considered the renowned poet and scientist’s place in the history of Iranian culture and thought.

Examining Khayyam’s poetry and intellectual outlook, Masoudian discussed recurring themes such as the passage of time, the impermanence of the world and Khayyam’s philosophical approach to life. The session centred on connecting these ideas with contemporary concerns. Masoudian explained how, in Khayyam’s vision, awareness of life’s transience and limited span can inspire people today to value the present, loosen excessive attachments and respond to personal crises with greater reflection and balance.

The event ended with readings from relevant quatrains by Khayyam and a question-and-answer session in which audience members shared their views on the poet’s worldview.
