To honour Abolhassan Najafi’s contribution to translation and encourage translators to enrich the Persian language, the Book City Cultural Institute will hold the tenth edition of the Abolhassan Najafi Prize this Bahman. The prize will recognise the best translations of a novel and a collection of short stories published in 1404, with an award and the Abolhassan Najafi medal.
Translators and publishers interested in taking part may send two copies of their books to the prize secretariat by the end of Aban 1405.

The jury for the tenth edition, chaired by Ali-Asghar Mohammadkhani, consists of Zia Movahed, Hossein Masoumi Hamedani, Abdollah Kowsari, Omid Tabibzadeh, Abtin Golkar, Narges Ghandilzadeh, Mohammadreza Tark-Tatari and Farzaneh Doosti.
Abtin Golkar, for his translation of Ivan Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons; Mohammad Hemmati, for his translation of Joseph Roth’s The Radetzky March; Zeinab Younesi, for her translation of Guzel Yakhina’s Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes; Mohammadreza Tark-Tatari, for his translation of J. M. Coetzee’s The Master of Petersburg; Ahmad Parhizi, for his translation of Laurent Binet’s HHhH; Farzaneh Doosti, for her translation of Kate Chopin’s The Awakening; Narges Ghandilzadeh, for her translation of Elias Khoury’s Gate of the Sun; Niloufar Sadeghi, for her translation of Susan Sontag’s In America; Mazdak Bolouri, for his translation of Barbara Pym’s Quartet in Autumn; and Azdar Angoshtari, for his translation of Erich Kästner’s Fabian, were the winners of the prize’s previous nine editions.
By sustaining a national platform for translation and recognising the people who broaden Persian readers’ access to world literature, the Book City Cultural Institute continues its cultural and social mission of supporting literary exchange and the professional community of translators.
