Specialized Calligraphy Workshop Held at Royan BookCity
A one-day workshop titled “The Art of Calligraphy in the Age of Technology” was held on the evening of October 11, 2025, at the Royan BookCity Café, organized by the Khat Honar Art Group. Guided by Master Gholian and attended by Dr. Ghasemigarami — sociologist and member of the *Khat Honar* faculty — the session explored the roots, functions, and psychological benefits of calligraphy, and was warmly received by the participants.
On the afternoon of October 11, 2025, Royan BookCity Café hosted its first specialized calligraphy workshop — an event organized by the Khat Honar Art Group to introduce participants to the place of calligraphy in today’s world.
Workshop instructor Master Gholian described calligraphy as an art that goes beyond mere writing — a manifestation of the aesthetics of words on the surface of lines, which in contemporary times serves as both an artistic skill and a therapeutic practice. He elaborated on the three fundamental movements in Persian calligraphy — vertical, horizontal, and circular — and identified dignity, continuity, and visual pleasure as the cornerstones of this art.
In continuation, Dr. Ghasemigarami — sociologist and member of the Khat Honar faculty — emphasized the role of regular calligraphy practice in promoting mental health, noting that this art not only refines aesthetic sensibility but also enhances concentration, patience, and cognitive performance by activating new neural pathways.
The practical part of the workshop was conducted under the instructor’s guidance using professional calligraphy tools, allowing participants to recreate samples of traditional scripts. Given the enthusiastic response, it was decided that weekly calligraphy classes would continue in the pleasant atmosphere of the Royan BookCity Café.
